Arrivederci!

veniceKatie and I returned late Thursday night from a wonderful 10 days in Italy. We had a great time exploring the country – starting in Rome, heading south to Sorrento, Capri, and Naples, then on to Venice, Florence, and Tuscany.

I’ve updated our photo gallery with shots from our trip, and will write a full report in the next few days! A few highlights include: Drinking lots of delicious wine; braving a hair-raising bus ride along the Amalfi coast (not the worst place to die in a runaway bus accident, though); a trek through the sketchy Naples metro; eating wild boar, octopus with black ink sauce, and rabbit; enjoying a midnight electrical storm as we rode the train into Venice; trying to locate a hidden hotel room; and enjoying a fabulous wine tour through the hills of Chianti.

More to come soon!

Sisters in Italy

Holly and Katie report excellent travels from Italy. Uploaded in the gallery are a couple pictures from their travels so far. I expect Holly to give the full report when she returns!

Galapagos Underwater Shots

We got a number of fabulous underwater photos while snorkeling in the Galapagos – and now you can see them too!
We definitely agreed that our best investment for the trip was an Ikelite underwater casing for our point and shoot Canon camera. While it was large and bulky to carry, it was worth it for [...]

Otavalo, Ecuador

When I was booking our trip to the Galapagos, we had the option to fly out very early on Saturday morning, with a 7-hour + layover in Miami, or to take a red-eye Saturday night, bringing us home by mid-morning on Sunday. We decided to maximize our time in South America, and booked the night [...]

Galapagos Day 5 – Santa Cruz and Departure

We were sad to wake up to our final day in the islands, but enjoyed a delicious final breakfast and bid farewell to the excellent crew. Then, we were on our way to visit the Charles Darwin Research Station.
Santa Cruz is incredibly different due to its population center, but it is an interesting stop in its [...]

Updated Photo Gallery

Beau’s spent the past few days slaving away to upgrade our gallery to a new version. It’s a lot nicer than the old one – so check it out! We’re in the process of updating our links…

Galapagos Day 4: Isabela

When we first started researching for our trip to the Islands, we were advised by our friends to seek out an itinerary that would include one of the westernmost islands. These islands are visited by fewer tourists, and offer a unique experience within the Galapagos adventure. So, we were happy to locate an itinerary that [...]

Galapagos Day 3: Floreana

We woke up to cloudy skies again on our third day in the islands. Today’s feature: Floreana, home to flamingos and some excellent snorkeling!
Our panga landing was marked by a lack of sea lions – I think there were only one or two lonely lions lazing on the beach. We did, however, see a beautiful [...]

Galapagos Day 2: Española (Hood) Island

We awoke on Tuesday morning to slightly cloudy weather and a beautiful view of the low-lying island of Española. Located in the southeast corner of the islands, it is the oldest of the Galapagos. As we were to learn from Esteban, the topography of the islands gives a huge visual clue to their relative age. [...]

Galapagos Day 1: San Cristobal and Isla Lobos

We were lucky to visit during breeding season for the boobies.

We arrived in San Cristobal around 11am on Monday. The airport is one of those fabulous tiny tropical airports with open walls, natural floors, and great sea breezes that caress your face as you wait for your customs stamp. We paid the $100 USD park entry fee, had our bags inspected to ensure that we [...]
