New Friends

A few weeks back, Beau and I drove down to First Flight, NC - yes, home of the famous Wright Brothers and their legendary adventures in aviation. The Outer Banks were beautiful and fairly deserted this late in the year, and we definitely look forward to returning in the spring. It’s a nice drive from our place, just under two hours, and boasts some great restaurants and my new favorite town name: Kill Devil Hills, NC.
We enjoyed a relaxing drive down the coast, watched some fishermen at a long pier, and enjoyed a nice crab feast, where I met some new friends:
There are more of Beau’s photos in the gallery from our day-trip, as well as new photos from Sean’s visit!
We just returned from a viewing of Madagascar 2 and highly recommend it. A good time had by all!
Cape Henry

We celebrated the three-day weekend with a visit from one of our dear friends Sean. He’s currently at Camp Lejeune working through his medical residency, and make the four-hour trek up to spend Sunday and Monday with us! It was so great to see him; the last time he’d had a chance to visit was an impromptu trip to Seattle in the middle of Beau’s DMD (=ridiculous work schedule that had him sick and sleep-deprived). So, this was a much nicer time for a visit!
Sunday evening we spent around the apartment catching up and enjoying some mexican food. Today we drove out to Virginia Beach and explored the Cape Henry lighthouse - not only the oldest government-sponsored lighthouse, but the first government works program. It was constructed in 1791 and subsequently damaged in the Civil War, to be replaced with a newer sister tower that sits nearby. We were able to climb up to the top of the original lighthouse and enjoy a beautiful view of the coast and the inlands of Chesapeake.
We loved soaking up the sun and wandering the beach before heading to PF Changs for lunch! A relaxing afternoon followed, at which point we wished Sean happy driving back home until the next time he is able to visit!
Beau took some great beach pictures which I will post in a few days, but here are a few shots from the day:
- The new Cape Henry lighthouse which replaced the original
- many stairs!
- Thick lighthouse walls suggest a perfect reading nook
- Sean and Beau frolicking on the Va Beach boardwalk
- Looking up the original lighthouse; a plaque commemorates First Landing on VA shore
- Beautiful view; graffiti on the windows obstructs the photo a bit
Our New Digs

We’re starting to feel quite settled into our new home here in VA. The boxes have been unpacked, the rooms organized, and most of the pictures hung on the walls. Here are a few snapshots to give you an idea of how it looks!
Happy Halloween

Beau and I dressed up as Han Solo and Princess Leia for Halloween, before venturing out to the Haunted Hayride at Hunt Club Farms. We had a blast! Hoping your Halloween was also full of tricks and treats!
