Now that I’ve finally finished the marathon summer road trip updates, I can bring you up to speed on the rest of our summer in DC!
In a word – it’s been HOT.
But fun!
We celebrated the 4th of July on the 3rd, taking in the free (and significantly less crowded) rehearsal concert for A Capitol Fourth. Beau’s sister Amy joined us and held onto our piece of lawn while Beau and I went for a brief jog on the mall. We attempted not to melt and happily helped ourselves to the piles of free water helpfully provided. Highlights of the concert included Reba, a possibly (likely) somewhat intoxicated Jimmy Smits as MC, and the moment where we saw fireworks on the screen and I gullibly looked behind us to see if they were actually going off above the Capitol. For some reason, the lack of booming noises didn’t clue me in. Beau and Amy found this quite hilarious.
Thanks to Amy for all of the below pictures.
What else have we been up to? Running, a lot, in our ongoing training for the Marine Corps Marathon. Most of our runs have been up and down the W&OD trail, but a few weeks back we went up to explore and enjoy the C&O Canal Trail, which is a piece of outdoor heaven in the city of DC. Well, technically outside of it, but still. I’m constantly impressed by all of the green space around here.
We shot a wedding, and I’ve shot a few headshots sessions, all of which you can see over in our Photography gallery. We’ve seen a number of friends who either live here or have been passing through town. We took a day trip back to Annapolis and wandered the lovely grounds of the Naval Academy. I continued job searching and finally, recently accepted a position as Administrator of the East Asian Languages Department at Georgetown University. Yay!
We’ve been losing miserably in our kickball league, but remain proud members of Team ManBearPig. Beau’s job schedule continues to allow him time to enjoy life, sleep, and generally be a human being again. Shadow and Sierra are hiding out in the cool basement as much as possible. We celebrated our 6th anniversary (wow!) We saw (and loved) Inception. We found a favorite Indian restaurant close to home. We discovered (and loved) Dexter.
And now, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that fall comes quickly, bringing with it fabulous weather and a lull in the crowds so we can start to really explore the museums and attractions of DC. We have some fun trips and visits with friends on the horizon, so it promises to be an eventful season. I’ll do my best to keep our blog a bit more updated! Keep stopping by…..we’re glad you came.
